Founder & Principal Attorney
Jennifer L. Kerrigan founded Kerrigan Law to provide businesses with sophisticated legal counsel grounded in real-world experience. Her career spans both private practice and in-house leadership, giving her a unique perspective on what companies truly need from their legal advisors.
Jennifer began her legal career at Blanco Tackabery & Matamoros, P.A., a well-respected mid-size firm in North Carolina, where she spent eight years handling diverse corporate, financial, and real estate transactions. During her tenure, she led the firm's Renewable Energy Practice Group, managing a team of five attorneys and four paralegals. In 2015 alone, her team facilitated the development and financing of over half a gigawatt of utility-scale solar projects—representing more than 5% of the entire U.S. solar market that year.
In 2016, Jennifer transitioned to serve as General Counsel for Heelstone Renewable Energy, a utility-scale solar developer. For nearly nine years, she advised the company's CEO, executive management team, and Board of Directors on strategic legal matters, transforming complex legal challenges into practical business solutions.
Today, Jennifer brings this comprehensive experience to Kerrigan Law's clients, offering the strategic insight of a former general counsel with the extensive experience gained from years of practice in corporate and renewable energy law.
In addition to her practice, Jennifer is committed to shaping the next generation of legal professionals and serving her community. She currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Wake Forest University School of Law, where she teaches Mergers and Acquisitions. Previously, she spent four years teaching Real Property Security at Wake Forest.
She is also passionate about advocating for children. Jennifer works with children at Speas Elementary as a reading buddy to give children additional one-on-one time as they learn to read. She has served as a pro-bono Guardian ad Litem with the Children's Law Center of Winston-Salem on cases since 2020. For the past 10 years, she has served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters Services, Inc. in Winston-Salem, including a term as Chair of the Board. A firm believer in mentoring children, Jennifer served as a “Big” to her “Little” beginning in 2004 and continues to embrace her “Little” even as she turns 30 this year.
